Have to reschedule vacatio until mid-October. Want to go with dad to Interlaken/Wengen for easy walks and then to Glacier express. Is mid-October too late- can deal with cold but not snow! How late into October and November can I plan for?

I was just reviewing Chris's Twitter feed (@Muerrenlover), and they had 4" of snow on Oct 11, last year. It melted away after a few days, but snow is possible that early. By early November they are getting the ski runs ready.
Named, direct-train departures on the Glacier Express don't run between Oct. 27 and Dec. 14, but other regional trains do serve the route. The Stechelberg-Muerren-Schilthorn lift closes for maintenance Nov. 10 - Dec. 5.
I've seen snow fall in every month of the year in the Alps except August, so you can never completely rule it out at high elevations. The yearly snow pack usually starts to accumulate by mid October, although any snow that falls at lower altitudes melts after a short time.
