How important are restaurant reservations in Bernese Oberland in Winter?

Hi! First time traveler to Bernese Oberland for New Years holiday (Dec 29-Jan2). How important are restaurant reservations each night? NYE excluded - will definitely make plans for that. I just don't know how crazy to get with planning ahead of time - we like to be a little more unscripted/go with the flow and see whats around? but also dont want to be stuck hangry...

I live in the Bernese Oberland, and I always reserve when I plan to go an eat out. But you do not need to reserve very far in advance. Same day reservations are perfectly fine. It is more a way to avoid arriving at a place and finding out there is no place left...

If you want to have lunch up on the Männlichen (which you should) do try to be there a bit before 12. Gives you a chance of finding a nice table out in the sun but out of the wind. We got there often for their Steak Tartare.

Always have some food back in your room when travelling in case meal planning doesn't work out, there is a nice Coop in Murren
