How does the Rochers-de-Naye cogway train work?

So, using the Swiss Travel Pass map, it looks like Montreaux to Haut-de-Caux is covered by the pass. Then the rest of the way to Rochers-de-Naye is a 50% reduction, which is consistent with what I've read elsewhere What I'm confused about is how that is managed. Do you have to hop off in Haut-de-Caux and buy a ticket the rest of the way? Does the conductor collect the fare on the train? Once you've paid for roundtrip to/from Rochers-de-Naye can you hop on/off at the intermediate stops? Are you given a paper ticket? Is it payable by cash or credit card only? Just trying to get it figured out ahead of time. Thanks!

You will need a ticket for the top part, yes. But you do not need to be in Haut-de-Caux for that. You can buy that elsewhere. You do not need to be in A to buy a ticket from A to B. Any station can help you.

Just went up and back today. (Fantastic, BTW). Turns out our pass covered the whole journey. But to the topic at hand, it turns out tickets were never checked. Not saying you should risk riding without a ticket -- the fine would be STEEP. Just saying, after you go to the trouble, don't be surprised if no one ever asks for the fruits of your labor.
