How do I update passport number in the swiss travel family pass

Hi,

We are a family of 4, (2 adults and 2 children) and booked a 8-day continuous swiss travel pass. We noticed that we had incorrectly updated my husband's passport number on the ticket. I am unable to determine how to update the ticket with the right passport number.

Would anyone know the process to update the passport number for one of the adults in the travel pass? appreciate your help, thanks

Regards
-hima.

I don't know how, but wherever you bought the pass - call and ask them. I'm guessing this won't be an easy thing to fix.

Don't make any changes to it yourself. I also would not bother with the sales agent who will have to charge you for any changes. Since your Swiss Travel Pass is already validated for the travel period, it's likely that nobody will EVER ask to see your passport with it. If you're really concerned, then I would take it to a Swiss train station ticket window and ask them whether they want to write in and certify any amendment.

Thank you Laura & Tim. We purchased the tickets directly on the swiss rail site. We contacted swiss rail as suggested, they said that the ticket needs to be cancelled & booked again, which is challenging as I need to cancel the entire family pass & book again. But I cant find any other way of updating it either. Should we wait till we contact the swiss rail agent at the station?

I definitely don't think the answer is to ignore the situation just because you might not have to show your passport. I have definitely been asked for my passport while on the train with my Swiss Pass. Follow the directions given to you from Swiss Rail.

I am not an expert on this, but if it were me and I was not able to resolve by telephoning the agency where you purchased, before using this pass, I would go to the sbb.ch ticket window when you arrive and explain the situation. Your husband needs to be there with his passport. These things happen. When my husband purchased his half price card, it arrived with an incorrect birthdate. He had to bring his passport to the ticket window and they corrected the information quickly and without issue. The larger train stations usually have the sbb tourist office attached. They have the time to give you if there's a long line.

When we were on the train in Switzerland and asked to show id with our tickets, I pulled out my driver's license, and never had a problem and was never asked for my passport. Only when I took the train between two countries, was I asked specifically for a passport. I agree, though, with LacLeman to get it changed once you are at the train station. Why have it hanging over your head every time you get on the train? I am sure you are not the only one that this has happened to.

Was the number used a valid number on an old passport that you can carry with you? If so, I think that solves the problem. Note that small mistakes in a last name, such as 1 or 2 letters wrong, are very common and not an issue. It is standard practice for those to be accepted. So if the name is correct and the new passport number is just a couple of digits off, I would also not worry. They only want to know that you have not traded the pass with another traveler. If you want to forward me the reply that they sent you, I can see if it changes my opinion.

Since this pass is pre-validated, the best timing for any changes (including in the train station) is before the printed start date.
