Staying one night in St. Moritz--seemed logistically best option though other towns a bit more appealing for quaint. None the less, RS very sparse on hotel recommendations here so looking for suggestions for clean and comfortable in the upper part of town. Will be first night in Switzerland so want to feel welcoming but also don't want over the top expensive so we don't feel we had to spend more here than anywhere else along our travels given this is just the pass through :). Any suggestions welcomed!

I'm afraid that you likely will feel like you had to spend more there than elsewhere - it is like asking for hotels in Beverley Hills that won't break the bank. It is, and has always been, a very expensive place to stay.
When I'm in the area around there I stay at less expensive towns so I can't give an actual suggestion. Sorry.
Ha. yes, my fear. So I am reading a bit more you may have insight and suggestions. We head in on the Bernina one evening then out on the Glacier the following morning so was a bit concerned about logistics getting to the other towns near by. But it sounds like there is quick bus service to Pontresina which was my initial first choice but I discounted that for fear of problematic logistics. Do you have experience getting between these two locals on a weekend? We come in on a Saturday and out on a Sunday morning so didn't want to be naive to think it would be easy particularly on Sunday a.m. with train leaving out. I had thought of Chur too but reservations for the Glacier were available from St. Moritz only at the time of our booking.
I usually stay at the Laudinella a couple of times each year and I can highly recommend it. By St. Mortiz standards it is very good value, you can usually get B&B for around CHF120 in a single room unless they are very busy. They have a free shuttle service to pick you up and drop by back to the train station.
