Hotel Staubbach in Lauterbrunnen -- BELLS NEXT DOOR

I can't believe it; so happy to be booking the Hotel Staubbach for THREE nights; and then I saw it on the travel photos. I have a balcony room; there is a building with a clock tower on it. REALLY? Does anyone know how often it rings? My only other trip to Italy was in 2007. I stayed at a Rick Steves recommended hotel in Castelrotto; I arrived late at night and unbeknownst to me, the town's carillon was literally right outside my window. 6 am. I am woken by the loud bells right outside my room; I spent those three mornings all upset because I couldn't go back to sleep. I am a light sleeper and since I'm on vacation, NOT needing to get up early. I don't want the same Castelrotto disaster. Please, none of the "oh, it's Italy; it's to be expected." I have sensitive hearing and having trouble tolerating these things. I hate to switch hotels; and my options are becoming more limited; I may need a room recommendation at the other end, closer to the train station.

Stupid Google Maps....it was showing the wrong hotel. It's still close, but downhill from the hotel. Anyone who has stayed there and can chime in (pun intended); I would appreciate the feedback.

I'm a light sleeper as well. One of the things I do is wear earplugs at night when there is a danger of outside/hallway noises that either keep me awake, or wake me up. Not everyone likes wearing them, but they have saved me many times. I don't mind waking up early on holidays - it's nice to drink coffee/tea and watch the world waking up. Going for a walk in the early morning light - especially in the Alps, is a memorable experience.

We Have stayed at the Staubbach twice and look forward to doing it again it is a nice facility and the people there are just wonderful. Never had any problem with church bells, Lauterbrunnen is a nice quiet town. If your hearing is so sensitive, I can't believe you don't travel with ear plugs.

lady,

You could always send an E-mail to the hotel and ask them how often the bells ring. On my last stay at Hotel Oberland, I don't remember hearing any bells at all?

Just a word about ear plugs...I find the actual working person's ear plugs to be more comfortable and effective than the kind that are sold for travel. They should be available at any hardware and seem to be made out of a different denser foam.

The bells of Europe are one of my favorite things to experience. I doubt you'll have a problem with Hotel Staubbach or you would have already read about it in the many reviews.
