Hotel recommendations near Lucerne HBF

I've had excellent suggestions from you guys for my equivalent Zurich post and was hoping to get the same recommendations around Lucerne HBF as well.

I've gone through all the hotels and I like Ameron Luzern Hotel Flora but the price is a bit out of my budget, I've booked a hotel apina as a backup but the reviews aren't that good and for that price I think i can do better (even if i stay a bit further away). Looking for 180CHF to 250CHF per night for twin beds (for 2 people) and free cancellation, no breakfast required. At the moment looking at 12 June but can shift depending on price. I will have a suitcase with me so needs to be suitcase friendly. No hostels please or shared bathrooms.

My plan for the next day is to take the interlaken express in the morning - i'm using the BO pass so I'm not timed bound like I was in Zurich. Happy to stay further out provided I can get to HBF using public transport without much walking or stairs as I will have a suitcase with me. Preferably on the same train line so i don't have to make several changes with my suitcase.

Thanks.

Luzern HB is basically in the middle of the town. All of the old town's hotels are within walking distance from the station, even with luggage. Have a look at Weisses Kreuz, for example.

I was just at the Hotel des Alpes, but it looks like it might be out of your price range for your dates. Next door is the Hotel Pickwick, lower priced but they look to be fully booked on your dates. I would go to booking.com and look for locations near the train station. Right now, I am seeing several hotels across the river in the Altstadt in your price range rated 8.0 or higher..

When I went last week, the Des Alpes sent me an email a couple of days before arrival to pre register and get my Luzern City Card, which allows you to use the bus system in Luzern for free. It is on a QR code, which you can print out or keep in your smartphone, so you can use the bus on arrival before you check in to get to the hotel. I believe all the hotels in Luzern participate in this. You will also have to pay a small city tax in cash on check in. It is pretty minor. 5 CHF or less.

Hotel de la Paix looks open for twin room. It's in a good location on the edge of old town, easy to get to the train station (walk or bus).

If you are ok staying a bit outside the city center, look at Kriens, a "suburb" of Luzern. There is the HI Express Luzern-Kriens, which is fairly new and has a commuter train station directly outside the hotel. Frequent service to Luzern, takes about 6 minutes and your transport is covered by the guest card you will get from the hotel (you can use your hotel reservation as valid ticket to get to the hotel). 8 mins by bus to Mt Pilatus cable cars in Kriens. I think breakfast is automatically included even if you don't want it, but the price is right and you can cancel up to 24 hrs prior.
Even cheaper is the Ibis Kriens, which is within a 5-6 min walk of the same station, but an older (and uglier) property in the middle of a bunch of office buildings so I would stick with HI.

Ok thank you all.

Do all hotels do this QR thing? I need to look up this card and see where it can take me :D

(you can use your hotel reservation as valid ticket to get to the hotel)
Is this just my booking.com reservation or does it have to be directly with the hotel?
