Hôtel recommendations in Basel?

Going to be in Basel for 5 nights before joining a Rhine cruise. Please recommend a good hotel.

Plan to do some day trips while in Basel - one to Lucerne, one to Colmar and maybe one into French Switzerland

what do you mean by a "good" hotel?

Lowest price? Highest amenity level? Closest to station (which one?) or docks? Most "Swiss"? Most modern?

Can you help?

Very clean, well maintained, in a safe neighborhood. Someplace that at least offers continental breakfast and coffee. Private bathroom with a shower. Rooms big enough to have a queen size bed and a chair and a desk. and not be constantly tripping over 2 people’s carry on bags and possibly one checked bag for 5 days. An elevator is a must - we’ve gotten past the age where we are happy about hauling our carry ons up steep narrow stairs. Would like to be in area where we can feel free to explore and soak up a little of the local culture / find restaurants or shops / eat like the locals, but NOT in someplace that is sketchy or is loud / rowdy / crowded at night. A place most Rick Steves guide users would feel comfortable. Not at all familiar with the geography of Basel and don’t know if this is possible, but someplace where it’s also not too hard to get to the old town or the train station would be a bonus. Another bonus would be a restaurant in the hotel but that’s not something we have to have. A nice public space would be lovely, but don’t need anything grand or large. Decor doesn’t have to be brand spanking new, but not old and worn either. Doesn’t have to be the cheapest place in town but not looking for the Ritz either -good mid price hotel.

I stayed at the Hotel Schweizerhof in Sept. 2021.

Here’s a review I wrote about the hotel after my stay:

While the Hotel Schweizerhof Basel is conveniently located to the main
train station and has a fabulous breakfast, what impressed us the most
was the hotel staff. The entire staff was exceptional!!! Everyone we
encountered was very welcoming and super helpful. Because this was our
first trip to Europe, we often had questions for the front desk.
Everyone was very helpful and we never felt like we were
inconveniencing anyone. We highly recommend this hotel!!!

To this day, it is still the best hotel staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. They were that good. Of course, it’s probably not the same staff, but hopefully the great service continues.

It’s within walking distance of the main train station and the trams are right out front. If I remember correctly, there was also a food hall/market a block or two away. Here it is:

Was considering that, as I saw a show Samantha Brown did on Freiburg and it looks lovely. We get to see Strasbourg on the cruise. We may still consider Colmar, as that is where my husband's family is from.
