We are flying into Zurich the last of May. We want to spend one night there before heading on to Wengen. Is there a budget friendly hotel near the train station that is decent? Thanks!

Zurich and “budget friendly” don’t really go together :) but if you want to be close to the train station, check Hotel Arlette. It’s not fancy and rooms are small but clean and would be fine for a night. Normally the Fred hotel (next to Zurich HB) is a decent option too, but looks expensive at end of May.
There are some airport hotels worth checking too and they’re often cheaper than staying in town. Only 10min train ride to Zurich, easy to get into the city if you want to do sightseeing. There are even a few directly at the airport, walking distance to terminal buildings. You could check the Hyatt Place Zurich airport for example. It’s a good deal (for Zurich) on some dates. The Hyatt Regency or Radisson Blu are also both directly at the airport (walk directly into terminals and airport station, no shuttle or transport needed) and can be reasonable on certain dates. From these 3, you can just walk to the airport train station and leave for Wengen from there the next morning.

What time does your flight arrive at Zurich airport? You could go directly to Wengen from the airport in only a few hours. If you have already booked your Wengen hotel for the following day, I suggest taking the train to Luzern, only 1 hour from Zurich airport. Better location than Zurich and perhaps less expensive hotels.
