Hotel in Murren, Switzerland with Balcony

Hello! We are planning a night in Murren in late June and would like a hotel with a balcony room overlooking the valley. Something with amazing views.
Thanks!!

If possible you need at least two nights in Murren.. we been twice and once 3 nights and once two nights. Both on different RS tours and it wasn’t enough.

I wish we could! We will arrive early in the morning and leave after lunch the next day.

Hi cissy, our favorite is the Hotel Alpenruh. It’s located steps away from the lift to the Schilthorn with great balcony views. Very nice breakfast buffet and upscale restaurant for dinner. We’ve stayed there several times and would love to stay there again.

Hi cissy, yes, we’ve stayed there 3 times and every room had a balcony. We love Murren. Although you’ll only be there a short time, try to go up to the Schilthorn and stop in Birg to do the Thrill Walk on the way back down. Take a walk down to Gimmelwald, then wander around Murren. For dinner try the Eiger Guesthouse Restaurant/Bar, great food. Perfect day!

We've always stayed at the Alpenblick which is on the north end of town and an easy one or two block walk from the train station. Being on the north edge of town affords a more open view of the big three than many of the other hotels but you cannot go wrong in Murren. The view is tremendous and the sounds of a waterfall can be heard from your balcony.

My vote is for Hotel Bellevue: request room with 2 balconies.
We had a very pleasant stay at Bellevue in August. Meals there are great.

I like the Hotel Bellevue because it is higher up, and has the best views in Muerren (in my opinion, after 5 visits to this village). I will admit that we do not stay there—-we rent an apartment nearby, with the same amazing views from the huge wraparound balcony. But we do dine at the Bellevue, because their food is so good.

When you are looking at hotel websites, rooms with balcony are usually listed separately, and priced accordingly (the balcony rooms generally cost more, but that may depend on the view). The exception would be hotels where all rooms have a balcony, such as Hotel Alpina in Muerren. There the difference in price is based on the view—-“city” view (looking toward the street) or looking into the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

Great info! So if we want to book a balcony or Mountain View is that listed or do we have to request it someplace?
Most of the places I see to book are like Expedia and Hotel.com and I’m not sure how to request it. I went to the Bellevue site and it was not in English so I suppose I need to go through a secondary site.
Sorry if these questions seem ridiculous but I don’t want to get the wrong room when I’m booking so far out and out of the country.
Want to get it right!!

Best to book directly, Hotel Bellevue has a website in English with a reservation enquiry form. Some buttons and sentences are still in German, but nothing critical ;)

We’ve stayed at Hotel Eiger twice, in a balcony room. Amazing Views wherever you are in Murren, one isn’t better than another, it’s a very small town. Highly recommend this hotel. Great restaurant as well.

Definitely book directly with the hotel. You can choose the room type (with balcony) in the booking process.

This link should take you to the English site:

Also, for a lot of the hotel sites in Europe, if you look at the top corner, there are usually some pictures of small flags. If you click on the British flag, that will get you to English.

if you have definite specific wants at a hotel, contact them directly and very clearly state them. And get confirmation of them in writing, things can happen when it's time to check in.

This is all fabulous info!! I really appreciate it. Never occurred to me about the flags on the websites. Everyone has been really nice. Thank you!!

Mention that you would like the RS discount at the Hotel Bellevue, when you book directly with them! The owner is great and communication is quite good. For some reason, their emails always showed up in my Junk File, so check , but they always communicated back within 24 hrs. [Nine-hour time difference .]

I chose not to get the room with the big balcony, and I somewhat regretted it. We had a lovely small standard room with a mountain view in the opposite direction, just as described. However, on the rainy day, I wished I had a larger room with views of the Monk, Eiger, and Jungfrau right from my balcony. Of course, if it rains, you won't see the peaks, buy the views are still quite special.

Hope you saw the OP regarding the NEW sale on the Swiss Travel Pass. We were lucky to have gotten that sale for our fall trip.

Isn't there ANY way to stay longer?????

Safe travels to this beautiful country!

Definitely will check junk mail. I will mention the discount, thank you!
I know nothing about the sale on the travel pass. I’m obviously behind a bit and SO very glad I found this site.

Another vote for Hotel Bellevue.
It is our favorite place to stay. The view from the patio on the back of the hotel is awe inspiring.
We enjoyed a rooms with a balcony as well as without a balcony.
A glass of Swiss wine while sitting on that patio is not to be missed regardless of where you stay. And, as mentioned above, the meals are outstanding.

Jay, I agree that Swiss wine, especially Pinot Noir, is very good. I don't think the Swiss export their wine to the US, but I had a few bottles that I wish I could have brought back. [We do carry-on only.] And- we bought our wine at the Coop store, and just brought it down to that wonderful patio. Last Sept was my 3rd Swiss trip, and I thought I was ready to explore other areas, but you all are making me want to return sooner than later!!!

Cissy, we all appreciate the fact that you are taking the time to say thanks. No greater compliment than having SOME of our advice valued!!! [No one could use All the advice given here :) ]

Pat, I feel like you all are saving me time, money and giving me a lot of “peace of mind”. It’s a lot to plan a trip from so far away and guidebooks can only provide finite information.
THIS is terrific. I’m gonna keep asking questions and bugging y’all for awhile so fair warning!!

I did find the English version of the Bellevue website and have heard back from them. Never would have gotten there without you all!!

I can’t speak to the rooms but we really enjoyed our meals at Hotel Bellevue. The food was wonderful and they were particularly kind to our kids, bringing them blankets when we had dinner outside when it was a bit chilly. I hope you have a lovely trip! If you can spend longer in Murren, I hope that you do.

We stayed in the Hotel Alpenruh during our RS tour a few years back, had a lovely balcony, but didn't use them this year, because at that time, they didn't offer a free cancelation policy.

Cissy,

I stayed at the hotel alpenruh while on the RS best of Switzerland tour. Everyone on the tour had a room with a balcony. Rooms were small but still comfortable. Balcony had two chairs and a small table. The view across the valley was beautiful.

Hotel Alpina was in my budget and had amazing view. Stayed there twice, another visit coming up next summer finally.

I, too, stay at the Hotel Alpina when I am in Murren. Sits on the edge of the cliff so the view from the balconies looks straight down into the Lauterbrunnen valley. Close to the small train station coming from Grutschalp (opposite side of town from the Schilthorn cable station). Reasonable price & nice breakfast included. Have enjoyed the dinners in their restaurant.
