Hotel Falken, Wengen

Has anyone stayed at this hotel in the recent past? I stayed here for a few days about 18 years ago on a high school trip and I'd love to stay there again. My wife and I will be there in mid June.

Also, we'll be in Switzerland for 9 days starting from Zurich. I had planned on staying in Lucerne for two days, Bern for two days, Geneva for two days, Wengen for two days and the last night in Zurich. However, after reading how much others on the forum loved the Berner Oberland region, I'm considering extending my stay in Wengen and I'm looking for thoughts and suggestions.

Thank you.

2 nights in any destination is really only one full day and lots of packing, moving, unpacking...wash, rinse, repeat :-) You'll waste lots of your precious vacation time just moving and packing moving and packing. Choose a couple of destinations and stay put. If you want to make a day trip from there then that's ok.

Geneva - why? It's not the quintessential Swiss experience, you know.

Looking various review of hotel Falken it still looks great.

I had 10 nights in Switzerland, and spend 3 in Luzern, 4 in Mürren, and 3 in Lausanne. I flew into Zürich and out of Geneva, but spent no time in either city (both airports have train stations right inside). If I had it to do again, I'd probably keep it the same.

Rick is not alone in saying that Zürich and Geneva are not the highlights of Switzerland. (Full disclosure; I haven't been to either one. But nothing I read anywhere made them seem more worthwhile on a short trip than other places in Switzerland).

I'd take your two days in Geneva and put them toward Wengen. Or, if sights in the Lake Geneva area are calling to you, then cut Bern, and stay in Lausanne or Vevey or Montreux instead of Geneva.

In addition to loving the Berner Oberland (which I did indeed), there's another reason to spend as much time there as possible. Mountain weather is both unpredictable and highly changeable. You want to maximize your odds of having enough time for all the outdoor activities. Two nights is only one full day - what if that day is rainy or cloudy? You've just spent a lot of money to get to a beautiful place and had it, literally, washed out.
