jp,
It would help to have some idea on your criteria - comfort and price level, etc. If you have a large and flexible budget, I'm sure you'd be very comfortable at the http://www.fairmont.com/montreux/
the overall itinerary is fly into Geneva and out of Geneva
Arrive June 1st (yes, tomorrow) and return June 8th
1st night - Lausanne we have those reservations. may make it two nights.
Then our thoughts are Montreux, Zurich, Zermatt and back to Geneva. Side trips - probably by train - from these location. Depending on hotels, we'll go to all and stay or go to some and take trains...
For a nice night - $250 US and under. Can't do all nights at $250.
For a one night splurge - up to $400/night if it is a spa or something very special.
Thank you!
The Fairmount Palace in Montreux as mentioned already is beautiful, well located and has a nice spa. I'd recommend Vevey as an option, it's 10 min bus or train from Montreux. Hotel des Trois Couronnes in Vevey also has a beautiful spa. Grand Hotel Du Lac in Vevey is nice, smaller, has a smallish spa area. All three are along Lake Geneva. Trois Couronnes and Grand Hotel in Vevey are a five minute walk from each other. If you are looking for a less expensive hotel, the Astra Hotel in Vevey is good and geared more towards the business traveler, IMO, no view or spa that I know of but right next to train station so very convenient. If you want the spa at the Palace or Trois Couronnes for the day and opt for a less expensive hotel, you can also buy a day pass. I've used both many, many times. There are other local hotels that are less expensive, but I have not used them so I can't offer a review, but it's likely Trip Advisor will be able to do so if you decide to look there.
Thank you for this list.
I'm looking up the hotels now. One of them mentioned that it was business oriented. None mentioned romantic which is what I"m looking for.
Any thoughts?
Thank you - Booked two nights at Grand Hotel Du Lac in Vevey
Now looking for 2 nights in Lucerne and 2 nights in Geneva. B&B or independent hotels.
The three hotels along Lake Geneva are beautiful with stunning views, each set along a beautiful promenade. All three could be considered romantic. Montreux Palace is the larger of the three, Montreux more of a city than Vevey. At one of our stays in Vevey at Trois Couronnes, our room had a beautiful and large terrace overlooking the lake. It was quite private and the staff was exceptional. I recommend looking at images of the hotel and the area, see if one matches your idea of what you are looking for better than the other.
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel des Balances in Lucerne. We were celebrating a birthday, telephoned in advance to let them know and they gave us a beautiful room upgrade. It was very well located and we could have stayed longer.
Thank you - Sounds wonderful!
Unfortunately it looks like the hotel is booked for one of the nights they will be there. So, will be looking for another hotel. Any advice?
jp,
Would they consider staying in Lausanne and visiting Montreux as a day trip? If so, I can recommend a hotel there.
Yes, they are staying in Lausanne for 1 night and did get reservation in Montreux for 2 nights.
Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. Using your advice, we are all set now.
I appreciate your advice,
Judy
