Hot/Dry in Switzerland this year

If this is old news for the Switzerland Forum, I apologize. But, my husband just telephoned me that he had heard the following on NPR. First time either one of us had heard about the unusually hot/dry weather in Switzerland this year:

If you went to Switzerland this summer, what did you experience weather wise?

We had plenty of rain the last two weeks of August in Switzerland. We had 5 days of solid rain, out of 14 days. Then two more days of rain the next week in Italy.

We spent the last two weeks of July and the first part of August in Switzerland this summer using Bern as our base. It was very warm in that area and only rained/sprinkled parts of 2 days out of the 15 we were there. It was so dry for Bern that they cancelled the fireworks on the hill near our house on August 1, Swiss National Day. As Californians it didn’t appear to be dry to us but they cancelled them nevertheless. Daytime highs were in the 80s and 90s on most days. It was a little cooler at high elevations, but not much. We were in Switzerland for three weeks during the big heatwave of 2003 and this summer’s heat was not quite that hot but almost.

I was in the Berner Oberland, Brig, Luzern, Bern and Murten in July and had excellent weather. There was one big thunderstorm but it was after we were back in the hotel - Bern that night. We had excellent a/c so slept very well.

The days were warm but not awful, for our British blood which had had too much heat in England it was great.

This is very old news to those of us who live here.
Yes, very hot, very dry, crops withering and rivers drying up.

Down here in the cities we had 8 weekends in a row (July+August) where the temperature reached 30°C, unprecedented. Occasional thunderstorms, but they didn't last long or provide much water for the farmers.
Two weeks ago it turned, mid 20-s, and thunderstorms in the mountains as others reported. This week it has turned hot again, reached 29° yesterday. But it can't last much longer, as the days are getting shorter.
