Holding half fare + Berner Oberland card: how to calculate the price Zermat to Lauterbrunnen?

hello :)

Might sound like a weird question but if I travel from Zermatt to Lauterbrunnen, it goes Zermatt Visp, Spiez, Interlaken / Lauterbrunnen

Considering Spiez to Lauterbrunnen is free with the Berner Oberland pass, should I just buy a ticket from Zermatt to Spiez with the half fare card and once in Spiez, we go on board the next train to Interlaken without any tickets as it is included in the BO pass?

Is that too complicated? Should we just buy the ticket from Zermatt to Lauterbrunnen and not worry about saving 10-15chf?

Thanks :)

With a Berner Oberland Pass, you could use it for Brig to Spiez on the RE 1 train. It will take longer than the fast route, but it is covered and is more scenic. Then you would only need a ticket from Zermatt to Brig.

Oh that's a nice suggestion :)
Thanks

So I buy a ticket from Zermatt to Brig and then I just go to the following train without any tickets as I have the BO card? Is that how it works?

The pass is your ticket, so you are not really boarding the next train without a ticket...

Ahhhhhh yes, now I got it :)
As simple as that!

I really love your suggestion for Brig. I see that only the BLS train are included on the BO pass. The R1 you actually mentioned. If the scenery is nicer, we will do that. Not really to save money but to get better views :)

I also noticed that some trains from Zermatt to Brig were the Glacier Express but apparently it is not worth paying more for that part, as the journey is in the valley.

thanks a lot

You see the same scenery from the regular trains from Zermatt, they run on the same tracks. Note, if you take the regional train direct from Zermatt to Brig, it will drop you the same place in Brig as the Glacier Express, in the street outside the station. Then you have to go inside the station for the RE 1. Often the train timing sucks, with a 1 hour wait, but there is a nice little Italian cafe in the station.

Timing is better if you take the regional train that only goes as far as Visp, then the next train to Brig, which will drop you inside the station with a shorter wait for the RE 1.

Sit on the left hand side of the RE 1.

Oh good to know that! Thanks! I now see the 2 stations at Brig: Brig and Brig Bahnofplatz. We might have luggage so I guess it would be better to go through Visp, even if it adds 1 stop. I also see a RE 42 direct train from Zermatt (not the Glacier Express) but it also stop at Brig Bahnof :(
