Hi there, just wondering if the climb up to the Schilthorn from Murren is very difficult and if it is well marked? We have good hiking shoes and are quite fit, but trying to gauge if this hike is do-able or not.
Thanks!

we recently did the mountain view walk from the top of the cable car ( near lauterbrunnen) to murren. we saw the path that goes up toward the schilthorn. the paths are reasonably well marked ( with small yellow signs/arrows), but only show how long it will take, not the distance ( which would be helpful). the map that is generally given out is very average at showing the walking trails in the area.
the trails can be very steep for those who aren't use to it and the altitude. also we got sunburnt while walking for hours. take plenty of water etc.
hope this helps
When I was there last month the top of the mountain was still covered in snow. I would estimate that about 1/4 of the moutain between Murren and th Schilthorn was snow covered.
On the lift ride down I was talking to two men in their mid 20s from the U.K. They had hiked up from Murren the previous day. If I remember correctly, it took them 3.5 to 4 hours to get up to where the snow started. Parts were steep and the air was getting thin. They turned back as the trail was not visible due to the snow and it was getting late They were able to get water from pooled snow melt along the way.
Hope you find this helpful.
See this previous thread on the topic.
There are several possible routes, depicted on this map. You might like a route via Rotstockhütte.
