Hiking Trips/tips around Grindelwald and Murren, June 19-24

We are excited about visiting Grindelwald (3 days) and Murren (3 days) for 6 days toward the end of June. We would like to do a number of day hikes from 3-5 hours. We would love suggestions for easy, moderate or difficult (on the moderate side) day hikes in this area and directions to the starting point. Are there some good rainy day hikes or other fun activities? We will either have a regional Oberland train pass or a Swiss Pass for transit. We will be there for the beginning of summer and wondered if there are any cultural events to celebrate the beginning of summer. We so appreciate your advice.

You should have some beautiful wildflowers in late June, although some of the higher trails may still have mud and/or snow.

I will mention some hikes at Grindelwald as I am sure you will get lots of suggestions at Mürren. From the top of the First gondola, it is an easy walk to the Bachalpsee for a classic photo shot of mountains reflected in the lake:

If you want something longer, continue to the Berghotel, on top of the Faulhorn ( check first if it is open--- should be sometime in late June):

You can easily do the classic Männlichen toKleine Scheidegg walk from the Grindelwald side. Take the gondola from Grindelwald Grund ( below the train station) up to Männlichen---this is a long ride with great views. First ascent the little Gipfel, and make sure you look over the edge toward Wengen to try to spot Gemse ( Chamoix). Then follow the easy path to Kleine Scheidegg, with fantastic views. If you want still more hiking, take the train up one stop to EigerGletscher and pick up the Eiger North Face trail which will take you below the north face of the Eiger and down to Alpiglen, where you can catch the train back down to Grindelwald.
