Hiking Trails in early May in Zermatt

Need some first person advice. Hubby and I will be in Zermatt first week of May for one and a half days. Hoping for some clear-ish weather to take the Gornergrat Railway one day.
But if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we are hoping there might be some lower elevation hikes open and clear.
Any recommendations for some easy to moderate walks/hikes? We are fit and active but snow shoes are not part of the plan!
I would LOVE to see the Valais sheep in Furi but not sure if that’s a thing in early May.

Thanks in advance!

Gornergrat is a good option. I have gone up there twice. I believe it's the right side going up for the best views. It might still be worth it even if it is a cloudy day. The last time i went up it was cloudy and i got a nice pic of the Matterhorn peaking out over the clouds.

I was going to recommend a walk through the Gorner gorge, but that is closed in May.

Have you been to Zermatt before? I like to walk through the main street and keep walking towards the Matterhorn. Can be some great views if it's not too cloudy.

We spent a quick morning here years ago and went to the top of Matterhorn but that’s all.
Yes, lots of stuff isn’t open yet so we are planning on doing the RS stroll, seeing the museum and maybe get some low elevation hikes in.
We arrive here from Chur on the G Express and decided to stay another night in case we got lucky with the weather.
