I'll be in Switzerland for a few days this summer and I'm looking for hiking suggestions on Mt Rigi. I've been to Switzerland before, but never up on the Rigi. I'm a hiker, so difficulty of terrain is not an issue; but scenery is. In other words I'm looking for the most scenic path(s)/trail(s) up there - and there appear to be many. Any suggestions?
We are uphill hikers so would not enjoy what Perry suggested.
We had limited time on Rigi (one overnight) somI did not make an exhaustive search of trails. We were staying at Rigi Kaltbad and did two short hikes from there, one in late afternoon when we arrived, and the other early the following morning. The afternoon hike was a "flower trail" that made a loop, with some descent and then a climb. I cannot assess the views because although we were facing the lake, it was covered with a layer of fog and we never saw it. We did hear the sound of cowbells floating up from meadows below.
The next morning the sun came out and there was no fog. The view over the lake was glorious. We did a level hike with the view to our right going out and on our left for the return, but I don't recall the name of the place where we turned around.
I am sorry I cannot come up with a specific recommendation, but I think pretty much any trail on the "front side" will have great views over the lake. You might look at starting from Rigi Kaltbad, Rigi Kulm, or the stop in between---Staffel Höhe or something like that. ( I don't have a map handy.)
