Hiking in Grindelwald & The Dolomites

Hello,

Does anyone have a website/book to suggest for looking up hikes in/near Grindelwald? I will be visiting in August. Thank you!

I will also be visiting the Dolomites too with plans to hike.

Myswitzerland.com for Grindelwald info or visit the tourist office in town when you arrive. In the Dolomites, our hotel staff gave us hiking information.

For the Dolomites: Walking in Italy's Val Gardena by Americans Laurel and Richard Barton comprehensively covers "20 easier walks" if that's your style. They include information about transportation and the mountain huts (rifugio in Italian) that provide food and shelter.

My favorite hike near Grindlewald in for First to Grosse Scheidegg. Easy one way walk, great views, and you take a magnificent lift up to First and bus back from G-S. The Forst to Bachalpsee walk is also lovely, but more crowded and shorter. Easy enough to do both in the same day if you do Bachalpsee before the First to G-S.

You don't indicate what level of difficulty you are looking for nor your skill level.

I was on a train yesterday on the way back to Bern from Brig and sat next to a person who had had to come back down yesterday from the north face (the one facing Grindelwald) of the Eiger because of the huge snowstorm which had caused her and her colleagues to abandon their ascent.

She told us of hiking and climbing from the window half way up to the Jungfraujochbahn to a mountain hut 2 and a half hours away across the ice field. It was harder for their return than the ascent they had attempted.

Yes, indeed, this was Sunday the 15th of July.

If you want a great adventure do the Via Ferrata in Mürren. Thrill of a lifetime. You can check out videos on YouTube.
