Planning to visit Geneva for 3 days in September- would like to do some day hiking here. Coming by train- do I need to rent a car? Saw common hike Mt Saleve any others recommended?
Haven't done it, but hiking through the vineyards around Puidoux looks neat. September will be harvest season.

Can you stay in Lausanne or Vevey instead? There are hikes about Vevey and Montreux like at Les Pleiades and Rochers de Naye. We recently stayed in Lausanne and visited both spots by train. If I had it to do over again I would stay in Vevey, though. Also to consider is a hike through the vineyards. Lots of info avaiable locally,
You can do this from Geneva, but each day trip will take you longer. No car needed!
Geneva has an extensive tram/bus network and if you stay in Geneva, the innkeeper provides you with a card to use local public transport for free. This includes staying at a youth hostel or campground. More info on free transport including boat: https://www.geneve.com/en/good-to-know/
