Hiking in early April?

We're having a hard time determining if it's worth the extras weight/cost to pack our hiking boots to Switzerland, and would love some insight as the information we're finding is variable. We'll be staying in Lauterbrunnen for 3 days the first week of April with plans to do walking and hiking as weather allows. At this time, it seems like most of the popular hikes in the Alps are closed due to snow.

What walks/hikes would you recommend to get the best experience of the area?

Do you think hiking boots are necessary for these hikes, or just good walking shoes?

Thanks for your tips!

The Murren/Lauterbrunnen Ski resort is planning to be open until April 26, 2020. This suggests you will be doing low country/valley hikes, or walking in snow.

One resort website notes:

"Peace and relaxation can be found on the network of winter hiking paths between Mürren and Lauterbrunnen before the breathtaking mountain backdrop of the winter sports area."

You will probably want boots if you plan to walk a lot in that environment.
