Hi everyone, we are arriving in Zurich, Switzerland on August 8th and we need to be in Lucerne by the afternoon of the 13th where we will spend two days with a river cruise group - we have thus August 9, 10, 11, and 12 - 4 full days - to explore. Our wish list to see include the Matterhorn, the Bernina Express, Zermatt but also Lauterbrunnen and Wengen etc. - we also don't want to change hotels every night so we are really struggling to come up with a route that would make sense... Please help lol!
Hi!
Our wish list to see include the Matterhorn, the Bernina Express, Zermatt but also Lauterbrunnen and Wengen etc
You could "do" Zermatt + Lauterbrunnen : head straight to Zermatt from Zürich on 8 Aug (assuming a morning or early PM arrival, this is very doable), spend the nights of 8 and 9 Aug in Zermatt, then head to Lauterbrunnen (or Wengen or whatever) and spend the nights of 10, 11, 12 Aug there.
Throwing in the Bernina Express is not as smooth, it involves long travel times from Zermatt or Wengen.
But if you'd rather skip Zermatt, you can replace "Zermatt" with "Pontresina" in my above suggestion, and it will work OK - at the price of a longish train ride from Pontresina to Lauterbrunnen.
I'd say the best is to purchase or borrow from a library Rick's guidebook. There are sample itineraries that cover every place you mentioned.
Alternatively, hire a travel agent. They are very helpful and often provide precious money and/or time saving tips.
