Help with My Mount Titlis Day Trip Itinerary

Hello everyone!

I'm planning a trip to Luzern from Paris on December 2nd, staying for one night. On December 3rd, I’d like to visit Mount Titlis for a day trip. Here’s my itinerary:

Morning of December 3rd:
- Check out from the hotel (with our luggage stored there).
- Plan to leave the hotel around 7 or 8 AM.
- Take the train to Engelberg.
- Ride the gondola to Mount Titlis.

Afternoon:
- Return to Luzern by around 2:30 PM, so that i can arrive at Luzern at around 5 PM
- After that, I’ll take the train to Interlaken and stay there for a few nights.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this plan! Is my itinerary for the Mount Titlis day trip doable? Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

As you know the weather might not play along, but otherwise this sounds like a great plan.

You give yourself a lot of time on the mountain itself, and I think you do not need that long to return to Luzern. The train ride to Interlaken is very scenic, but you will be traveling in the dark for a good portion of it, so you could consider leaving Luzern earlier, if you want to take in some of the scenery along the way.

Oh, so I don’t need to spend that much time at Mount Titlis? What time do you think I should head back to Lucerne? And when’s the best time to take the train to Interlaken?

I’m not from Europe, so I’m still figuring out the perfect itinerary

Your suggestions are very welcomed!

The amount of time needed depends on how many of the additional activities you are going to do while up there.

It will be good to check the weather before going

You can also see the webcam here:

This can help you decide if it is even worth going up. Today, for example it is predicted to be foggy all day, and the webcams show that to be so.

On sbb.ch you can find the schedule for Luzern - Titlis which looks to take about 1h 20min. For the destination I chose Engelberg, Titlis Cliff Walk so that it would calculate the time to go up the gondola as well. I have not personally done this trip, so if anyone else knows a better way then hopefully they will say so.

For Luzern - Interlaken Ost, through Meiringen is the scenic route and takes about 1h 53min. At the moment there is a replacement bus from Meiringen to Interlaken, so that portion will not be scenic. That might be different by the time you travel.

It looks like the sun will set at 16:42. You do not have to plan it all out now. You can purchase your train tickets on the day of travel. I think that the weather will play a big part in what you decide to do and when. You will certainly be able to go up the mountain, enjoy your time there, return to Luzern whenever you are ready and travel on to Interlaken.

Mt Titlus has that really cool suspension pedestrian bridge. Not everyone would walk on it, but I thought it was a thrill! Hope you have a clear day. Have a great trip.
