Help with itinerary

Hello, we are a family of 4 adults traveling in 2 weeks. We have only one full day & 2 half days in Lucerne. Should we do Mt. Pilatus or Mt. Rigi on our full day? We then have 2.5 days in Wengen. I'd love some help with an itinerary of sites/activities. My son is interested in Jungfraujoch, although I understand it's really weather dependent (and expensive.) We are all pretty good hikers (although my husband less so.) I'd really appreciate some suggestions of which mountains/hikes/activities we should do while in that region.

Oh, and any recommendations for dinner is appreciated. I only have one rez for our last night in Wengen at the restaurant in the Hotel Barën.

Thank you all for your help.

Your full day is the time to visit Mt. Rigi or Mt. Pilatus because Lucerne’s Altstadt can be easily seen in a few hours.

There are tons of hikes around Wengen. Be sure to visit Murren on the other side of the Lauterbrunnen Valley as the views of the Jungfrau, Eiger and Munch mountains are spectacular from Murren and along the easy hike (1-hr) to the Swiss village of Gimmelwald.
You can also visit the underground Trummelbach waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

Another vote for the easy walk from Murren to Gimmelwald, which is a charming little village. Stop in at Pension Gimmelwald for a drink if they are open.

Thank you. These are wonderful suggestions. For those who have done Mt Pilatus and Mt Rigi, is there one you’d recommend over the other? Both look amazing!

I didn't do both. I did Rigi. It is included on the Swiss Travel Pass, if you are getting that. It was spectacular. We had a boat ride across the lake, two cog wheel train rides up to the summit for a spectacular view.

In BO, I did the Schilthorn. It was half price on the Swiss Travel Pass, It was a bit overcast so that was disappointing. There are James Bond exhibits related to the movie that was filmed there so that might be of interest to your son. In general, mountain weather is best first thing in the morning.

We didn't do Jungfraujoch.

The 30-minute cogwheel train up to the summit of Mt. Pilatus is unique because it is the steepest rack railway in the world with gradients up to 48%. That makes the journey about as much fun as the destination.

You also can take a cable car to the summit of Mt. Pilatus where there are two hotels with restaurants, hiking trails and an observation deck.

Thank you all for these great suggestions! Mt Pilatus has the mountain coaster which I know we’d all love (maybe not my husband lol.) Mt Rigi has the hot spring. Can’t do both so may just flip a coin.
