Help with Itinerary

Hi,

We are going to be in Switzerland from September 11th to the 16th(We are coming from Munich by train). I have booked a hotel in Lucerne(Boutique Hotel Balm in Megen, which we can cancel if needed) for the 5 nights. We would like to visit the Matterhorn as well as some of the tourist spots around Lucerne. Is it too much to travel to Jungfraujoch from Lucerne? We will be spending 4 days in Paris if anyone has any suggestions for that part of the trip. Thank you!
UPDATE:
Thank you for the suggestions. I canceled the hotel. I think that we will stay in Lucerne for 2 nights then move to Lauterbrunnen for 3 or 4 nights. We are also thinking that on the way to Paris by train we could stop somewhere for one night. Any suggestions on where to stop for a short overnight stay?

The distances of the destinations are too far to work as daytrips. For starters, getting from Munich to Lucerne takes 4.5 hours by train; Lucerne to Kleine Scheidegg for the Jungfraujoch is 3 hours; Lucerne to Zermatt is 3 hours. Zermatt to Lauterbrunnen is also 3 hours. That is a lot of train travel for just 5 days— more than most travelers would find makes for a relaxing vacation.
Then there’s the question of what visibility will be like on the day you’d be there to see the Matterhorn from Zermatt or the panoramic views from the Jungfraujoch or Matterhorn. If you happen to arrive on a cloudy or rainy day— the views you have traveled so far to see may not materialize.

In Switzerland, if you’re going somewhere primarily for the mountain views, your best bet is to plan on being there two or three days so you have some flexibility if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

You might want to consider staying in Lucerne two or three nights and then go to the Berner Oberland for the remaining time to visit the Jungfraujoch, the Schilthorn or Birg mountain peaks.
. There are a lot of options in the Berner Oberland with Lauterbrunnen, Wengen or Mürren all beautiful places to stay while you’re there. (Wengen is the closest town to Kleine Scheidegg).
The bonus is that the train ride from Lucerne to the Lauterbrunnen Valley is spectacular.

Lucerne also has several excellent mountain peak journeys— Mt. Rigi, Mt. Titlis, and Mt. Pilatus.

Have a great trip!

I am sure you are aware that Meggen is outside of Luzern. It will take you anywhere from 14 - 29 minutes to get to Luzern from there.

Use sbb.ch or app to see travel times for the various locations you want to go to.

Meggen - Jungfraujoch is over 4 hours one way.
