Help with getting around Switzerland via rail

Hi all,
My partner and I will be in Switzerland in early Sept and I'm hoping for some help with the best train routes and if we should get any sort of rail passes. I know there is a lot of info online, tons of youtube videos, but I've had some family hardships lately that are giving me soooo many things on my to-do list before this trip, and I'm feeling really overwhelmed. So I'm just hoping for some advice. Here's the itinerary:

Day 1- arrive Zurich 9am, go to Interlaken and probably want to take a break for a walk etc, then get to our hotel in Murren
Days 2,3,4- Staying in Murren (would like to see Lauterbrunnen, gimmelwald, hike Eiger trail, possibly Schilthorn)
Day 5,6- staying in Zermatt
Day 7- train to Bolzano to go to Dolomites (will pick up a rental car)

Thank you!!

Zermatt to Bolzano will take the whole day as it is a 10 to 11 hour train journey. Look at the your options at www.sbb.ch/en

Rail service is currently interrupted between Zermatt and Taesch, as the tracks were damaged by a flood a few weeks ago. Hopefully, that will be repaired by the time of your trip, but in the meantime there are shuttle buses running between the 2 stations.

The rest is pretty straight forward. Get a 6 or 8 day Swiss Travel Pass if you want to make life a bit easier. There are a few direct trains from Zurich Airport to Interlaken, otherwise with a train change at Bern.

Take the 10:45 direct train from Zurich Flughafen (airport) to Interlaken Ost and then switch trains there to head to Murren (Interlaken Ost>Lauterbrunnen>Grutschalp>Murren)

I wouldn’t recommend walking around Interlaken. You’re going to have your luggage to deal with and it would be much nicer to just get up to Murren and then spend your time walking around there. You’d even have time to go up to Allmendhubel for lovely views after you check in or a light hike.

In my opinion Schilthorn is non negotiable if you’re staying in Murren. It would be like going to Paris and not going to the Eiffel Tower :)

Weather dependent I’d do something like this…

Day 1 - arrive Murren around 2 pm (10:45 train from the airport), check in and go up to the Allmendhubel and do the easy walk down to Murren via the Bluemental Trail, Wander the village and Dinner

Day 2 - Schilthorn & Birg in the morning, afternoon walk down to Gimmelwald (the wood fired pizza at the mountain hostel is great) - you could also do the Northface trail in the afternoon and then end up in Gimmelwald for late afternoon/dinner (to do this, ride up the Allmendhubel and hike counterclockwise ending at Schilthornbahn cable car which will take you down to Gimmelwald)

Day 3 - Murren > Grutschalp > Lauterbrunnen > Wengen > Mannlichen > walk to Kleine Scheidegg > option to ride up to Eigergletscher / Eifer Trail or continue walking to Wengernalp from KS and then train back to Wengen > Dinner in Wengen and then return to Murren

Day 4 - Murren > Grutschalp > Lauterbrunnen > walk or e-bike the valley > Afternoon you could do Schynige Platte or a boat ride on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun

Day 5 - Train to Zermatt, Village Walk

Day 6 - Gornergrat

Day 7 - to Italy

Wonderful suggestions, thank you! Will have to get groceries at some point the first day at the least, we don't plan on eating in restaurants too much.

If you want to pick up some groceries: Go to the COOP in Interlaken when on the way to Mürren.

Mürren itself has a coop to, but it is a small one. There is a huge COOP opposite the Interlaken Ost train station. Since trains go from there to Lauterbrunnen and then on the Mürren every half hour you can easily lay in a break, and do some shopping.
