There is a Nationwide train strike scheduled in Italy the day we are scheduled to travel from Lugano, Switzerland, to Milan (Sept 26, 2026). Can anyone recommend a car service they have used for transport? The last time I was in Italy we dealt with the train strikes and since we are traveling on a Saturday, I have read that routes are not guaranteed since it is not a work day(?). This is not our fly home day so I do not need to worry about catching flights but I would like a smooth travel day.

I suspect there may be some trains operating. I'd have to do some research but some alternate options that come to mind....
- Ride hailing service (not sure what's available there but your hotel in Lugano should be able to suggest something)
- Bus service

can we just go back to where this information came from? I checked the Italian government strike register and there is nothing shown for the railway sector on that date.
So I deselected railway and it has a stike by a union that covers general workers in many sectors including railway but the details of that strike only seem to apply to government and local authority workers.
So I Googled in english about italian railway strikes and the hopeless AI summary told me what you say - and quoted a strike tracker website which is also AI. That said the same and refered me back to the government register which had already told me there were none.
So I went back to Google and asked for railway strike but this time in italian. And this time Google AI said there were none planned!

Hmmm....I look again regarding the train strike and still see it on page three on this website: https://scioperi.mit.gov.it/mit2/public/scioperi. It is Listed at national strike for the 26th. I also checked in AI, which I don't like to use, but it says, yes, there will be a strike. Do you have experience and am I reading that site wrong? I was looking at the Daytrip ride service.

I saw page 3, but use the filter at the top and it doesn't show it as a railway strike. The only reference to railways on page 3 is the description of the union. A second governemnt website also list the strike notification and it also only mentions railways in the union description https://crusc-gepas.perlapa.gov.it/detail/67e21a8e-018d-4e60-9ea7-96fe77957c76 . The union's own website is a mess and doesn't mention anything about a strike on that day. But it does show that the only railway workers it represents are station staff so I don't believe that would affect international train services. My experience of this sort of thing goes back 10 years when i was stood on an italian station with a strike notice on the display screens - as all the trains ran as normal!! So at the moment I see nothing that would worry me.
As for Daytrip. It isn't a ride service. It's a flashy website which at best fronts for a booking agency. The small print at the bottom gives a UK company name, registered to a small building in central London - which is listed for 1170 other companies! Presumably that is the legal firm who helped set up the registration. The only UK phone number is a cell phone, which doesn't boost confidence so I checked the company registration and it has just one director, who lives in a small house in Cesky Krumlov in Czechia.

Oh goodness. What I really do want on day of travel is peace of mind. I don't have it yet, ha ha! I do appreciate your insight. I would like a reputable and affordable limo/taxi service that people have direct experience with. I had an awesome experience with this from the Amalfi coast to Naples airport in 2024 but that company is focused in that region.
