help with a hotel in Geneva

OK, don't ask. I wasn't thinking straight. :)
Now I have one night in Geneva. We are going skiing in the French Alps and for some reason I thought it would be best to fly out on New Years Day instead of New Years Eve. So we will be traveling to Geneva and will be spending the better part of the day there on New Years Eve. We will need to spend the night there and then fly out at 9am the next morning. I need a hotel closer to the airport but would like to sightsee in the brief time we have there on the 31st. I don't want to spend $400-$500 for one night at a hotel. (more like $100-$200).

I would be grateful for any ideas, suggestions or recommendations.
Thank you all so much!

No need to stay at the airport. It is only a short bus or train ride from the city centre to the airport, and that will give you a lot more choices.

I have no idea what hotel prices will be, as New Years Eve will be a very abnormal day. Expect fireworks and a big party at midnight.

Geneva is a very expensive city. Try checking the accor hotel website. We stayed at an ibis budget nr airport with a airport shuttle avail. Book asap.

If you're willing and able to get out of town a short distance, check out Le Bois Joly hotel/restaurant in Crozet, France.

Inexpensive, clean, convenient to GVA, and a good restaurant. My wife and I recently stayed there and had a room for two, full dinner for two (entrée, plat, fromage [for me] and dessert [for her] with decent bottle of Beaujolais) and two breakfasts. Total bill? Under 200€.

I just checked the rates for the Movenpick hotel in Geneva for December 31, 2017 - 147chf for two people, one night. I loved my stay there. Beautiful hotel with an excellent breakfast in the morning. They offer a free shuttle to the airport which starts early. They also offer a free bus pass to get to around the city. I'd book soon if you are interested.

Thank you all so much! I will check into each of these hotels tonight. What a wonderful bonus to hear that there will be fireworks.
