Help on Lucerne - Dec 30-Jan 2, 2025

My family and I are traveling to Switzerland for a two week vacation over the Christmas holidays. We are starting in Geneva and going to CERN as well as Montreaux's Christmas Market and Castle. We then go to Grindelwald to ski until the 30th. We are avid skiiers - so that will be our focus there. After we leave Grindelwald, we are staying right now 3 nights in Lucerne - our final night will be in Zurich since we have a morning flight on the 3rd.

Will there not be much to do in Lucerne over New Year's? I have 12 and 16 year old boys. I thought about spending one day in Konstanz, Germany for fun. Looking for fun things to do if possible. We have a hotel, so that is covered.

Thanks in advance!

Why travel to Konstanz when you are already in beautiful Luzern. Cruises on the lake, Mt Rigi, Mt Pilatus, Stanzerhorn are all right there.

We are already spending six nights on the mountains of the Jungfrau region - Are these other mountains spectacular or have different winter activities than Grindelwald/Wengen/Jungfrau? Just trying to get a well rounded trip to Switzerland.

It would be helpful to know what kind of fun activities you’re looking for if boat cruises or taking the tram up to Mt. Rigi doesn’t seem to appeal to you?

The transportation museum is open every day. My 12yoa son enjoyed it. So did I, for that matter. We also enjoyed the Lindt store.

You have probably already seen the Luzern tourism webpage focusing on New Years. The fire works look like they would be wonderful and if you like skating there is the outdoor rink.

Titlis mountain in nearby Engelberg has fun winter activities. Along with the usual sledding, you can try snowtubing or airboarding.

A guided tour of Stöckli’s handmade skis, if you are interested in that.

You can check out the other local mountains to see what they offer in addition to skiing, if that is going to be your focus in Grindelwald.
