Help me decide: Lake Como (Veranna) and/or Lucerne

Hi all. Trying to whittle down my trip a little and end in fewer locations but don’t want to give up on something wonderful. Thanks to some great advice on this forum, I’m getting closer to a finalized plan. I’m wondering if these two lake locations are similar enough to cut one? Everything I see of the Como area looks amazing and so it was a priority when first planning our trip. However, going from Salzburg to Como area and then to Murren requires a long train ride twice in 3 weeks. Will we have a similar experience in Lucerne that I should skip Como? Or are they both unique enough that we just plan a couple long trips to enjoy both? I don’t think we will be able to come back so I would love advice from anyone who has been there.

Hi!
Let me link your previous thread so that people do not ask you again what is your overall route.
It is no big deal at all, but next time, it will be better to ask such follow-up questions on the same thread that you started - it can be confusing to have two threads on the same itinerary.

Lake Luzern and Lake Como are very different. Most of the charm of Lake Como lies in the picturesque villages and villas that line its shores.
Whereas in Lake Luzern, the focus is more on the surrounding mountains (Rigi, Pilatus, Stanserhorn, Bürgenstock, Fronalpstock... all have amazing views) and on the city of Luzern, which has a lovely old town.

It is easy to break the long journey from Salzburg to Lake Como, and getting to Mürren takes a while wherever you come from, so I do think you can fit Lake Como in.
But, if you think you'll have the chance to visit Italy in the not-too-distant future, you could decide to leave Como for that trip instead.

Thanks! Will do next time. I may start a new one, however, with my updated itinerary when I land on it. I appreciate the tips and feedback! Once I make a decision on this I can probably lock it down.

We just got back last month from at a trip to Italy and Switzerland. We did Venice, Menaggio on Lake Como, Wengen, then one night in Lucerne before taking the train to Zurich to fly home. We loved Lake Como and had a great time there…but my husband and I both agreed that if we HAD to choose only one we’d probably pick Lucerne over Como. We both really wish we had more than one day in Lucerne and would have loved to visit all the little villages on the lake. Next trip!

Thanks Beachteacher.. Glad to hear it. We picked Lucerne due to the travel logistics and I know they are both amazing destinations.
