Help in Organizing my 4 day Wengen Stay

Hi all

I am going for a honeymoon this October and going to stay in Wengen for 4 days from October 2 to October 6.

I am arriving in Wengen at 10 am on October 2. I would like to incorporate the following in my 4 days but not sure how to go about it:

  1. Jungfraujoch Top

2, Mannlichen to Kleinn Scheidegg Hike

  1. Grutschalp to Murren Hike

  2. Lake Brienz Cruise with RothornBahn Train

  3. Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg Hike

  4. Hiking at the Schynige Platte plateau

  5. Trummelbach Falls and Staubbach Falls

A.I am unable to decide what to do and when? What are the combinations I can make to fit the 7 things above in 4 days that I have? Is it too much?

B. Is there anything major that I am missing in Bernese Oberland?

I will really be very grateful to you if you can help me in organizing this.

Thanks a ton!

I'm not sure if you have time for all of this in four days, between the vagaries of weather, how long some of these activities take, and how tired you will be after some of them.

I'd let the weather determine plans, on the spot. For instance, the Jungfraujoch trip is very expensive and takes a half day minimum, so don't go unless the weather's good; the two waterfalls, on the other hand, are cheap or free, don't take much time to get to from Wengen, and are good in cloudy weather, so you can do them anytime.

Of course this will be weather dependent but here are four days worth of ideas assuming good weather. If the weather is not good, ask locally what to do, what to expect, where to go.

Oct 2 - arrive 10:00AM. Get out immediately to take advantage of the daylight hours. Do the Mannlichen-Kleine Scheidigg hike and look around Wengen. You can return via train or walk back.

Oct 3 - Jungfraujoch - head out early as long as it is a clear day. Not clear? Don't go. Substitute another day's activity.

Oct 4 - Schynige Platte as early as possible and then you can maybe fit in Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg if you have energy. We went early to Schynige Platte, had lunch up there, but that was enough for us for the day.

Oct 5 - Grutschalp to Muerren then Trummelbach/Staubbach - again a lot for one day but doable if you have energy.

To fit in the Lake Brienz and Rothorn Bahn will take another full day, or you need to substitute it for one of the above. Maybe if the Jungfraujoch is not feasible due to weather, the Lake Brienz Rothorn Bahn would be an option. One always has to make choices!

It can/will be cold. We encountered snow as early as Sept 1 last year. Be prepared with gloves, hats.

Thanks both of you for your replies. I feel what I have planned is a little too much.

If there was one thing you could drop from my itinerary to fit into 4 days, what would that be? Your personal opinion please!

I would probably drop the Schynige Platte OR the Lake Brienz cruise with Rothorn Bahn. Each is along commitment in terms of transportation. I have not done the Brienz/Rothorn Bahn but I was very tired of the train to/from Schynigge Platte at the end. It is very slow. I am kind of intrigued about the Brienz cruise/Rothorn Bahn and may check that our when we are in the B-O in late September.

EDIT: I was bit harsh about the Schynige Platte. The hike was fabulous! The train ride up was novel, but by the end I just wanted to be comfortable and that train is NOT.
