Help! Half fare passes & Saver Day prices

Hi folks…I’ve purchased 2 half fare passes for my hubby and I for travel in Switzerland in early May ‘26. We’re looking to travel on the 6th and figured I’d get a Saver Day pass for travel on that day, understanding that it’s good for an entire day.

Here’s the dilemma - I see that the cost of a full price Saver Day ticket for both of us is $176 CHF. With the half fare, it should be $88 CHF. However, when I apply the half fare discount to both of us, the cost says $118 CHF. And when I actually go further to purchase it, it shows up as total cost of $147 CHF - $88 for me and $59 for my hubby.

I’m sure I’m doing something wrong…any assistance would be appreciated!

Thx in advance,

Cissy

I'm confused about whether you're quoting prices in US $ or in Swiss currency (CHF).

The Half Fare Card doesn't cut the cost of Saver Day Passes in half. The prices vary, depending on class and how early you buy, but when the passes are initially put on sale the second-class pass costs 29 CHF ($36 US) with a Half-Fare Card and 52 CHF ($65 US) without. I've always found second-class seating perfectly comfortable on trains in Western Europe, but I think first-class is sometimes advantageous for extra luggage-storage room.

The initial price of a first-class pass is CHF 49 ($61 US) with a Half-Fare Card and CHF 88 ($109 US) without.

My guess is that you're seeing different prices for the two passes because there's only one pass remaining available from the CHF(?) 49 price allotment, so your pass comes from the next-highest-cost price bucket.

Prices will continue to increase over time until they hit whatever is the maximum cost of a Saver Day Pass.

Make sure that you have added the half fare card reduction to both passengers.
