Help final decisions on Itenerary

First thanks for having this forum and all the advice.

My daughter and I travel to Switzerland April 20 to May 4.
We have reservations from April 20 to 27th in Lucerne, Schyz near Stoosbahn, Lauterbrunnen.
*We are thinking of leaving Lauterbrunnen and catching the Glacier Express in Brig. Taking it to St. Moritz (stay one night 27th)
*Then traveling North to Lichtenstein 2 nights (not sure what to do there, daughter wants to visit it).
Staying 2 nights: 4/28 4/29 (could just stay one night).
*Then going to Ebenalp on our way out for the day then heading on to Appenzel for three nights
4/30, 5/1, 5/2. Not sure of everything to do in Appenzel.

Zurich one night 5/3 , Fly home 5/4.
What are your thoughts or suggestions. I appreciate any insight. We are planning this ourselves and nervous. Thank you again soooo much!!!!!!

If feeling uncertain, you can find more info on the following resources-

If you don't have a morning flight, you don't need to be in Zurich the night before. I'd stay in Pontressina, not glitzy St Moritz, which is low on charm.

Enjoy this beautiful country! Safe travels!

Hi Cathleen,

Here is another itinerary you can also consider

April 20th to 27th - Lucerne

April 27th - Catching Glacier Express train in Brig to ST. Moritz or Pontresina (towns are near each other like 15 minutes apart) Pontresina is less expensive.

April 28 & 29 - Traveling to St. Gallen instead of Lichtenstein. St. Gallen is a beautiful village and guess what, it is 42 minutes from Lichtenstein so you can do a day trip to Lichtenstein from St. Gallen or vice versa if you do decide to stay in Lichtenstein.

April 30 , May 1st & 2nd - Heading to Appenzell and making a stop along the way to Ebenalp.

By the way St. Gallen is in the Engadin Valley and is among the Appenzell villages. So, if you do decide to stay in Lichtenstein. You can opt to stay in ST. Gallen while in Appenzell for those 3 days.

May 3rd and 4th - Zurich before flying home

I wouldn't encourage 2 nights in Liechtenstein. For me, and I have, half an hour is plenty.

But if daughter would be happy, a happy daughter is a happy family.

I think there is a typo in RvJean’s post. St. Gallen is close to Appenzell, but nowhere near the Engadine Valley which is far to the south in Graubunden. The journey from St. Gallen to Vaduz in Lichtenstein is 42 minutes by car (according to Google), but without a car it is 1.5 hours or more by train and bus.

Jut checking that by this you mean that you will be in two places during this first week, Lucerne followed by Lauterbrunnen.

You have written “not sure what to do there” a few times. Why not spend a bit of time brainstorming what kinds of things you want to do. What is it that led you to choose Switzerland over another country? Once you have worked out what your top things are, then find out where in the country is the best place for that.

Pat gave some great suggestions as to where you can research. I would also caution that on social media of all types, people are most interested in getting followers and likes and are not always concerned with absolute accuracy. In the past I have seen photos labelled "Luzern" when they were in fact taken here in Thun where I live. Since I walk past these locations regularly I recognised them right away. I would always compare the things you find out with the local tourism websites to see if it is accurate.

Myswitzerland.com is full of great information.

St. Gallen is a beautiful village

It is actually a city and the capital of the canton (state/province) of St. Gallen. It is next to, but not a part of Appenzellerland, the region where the village of Appenzell is.
