So thanks to your help i made an itinerary for beautiful Switzerland best as i could. However the first leg of our holiday is 2 nights in either lauterbrunnen or murren or wengen. But it seems impossible to find rooms. Also Ive been told that end march is the worst time to go. We are not skiiers and are travelling with kids. Is this a bad idea. I envisaged beautiful scenic beauty , and lovely walks. Please help. Im so confused.
Late March will be beautiful provided you like winter vistas. This live webcam gives you an idea of what the weather in the alps is like this time of year. Today it is sunny but there's plenty of snow in the mid-to-higher elevations.
For lodging in Lauterbrunnen try Hotel Staubbach, Hotel Oberland, or Hotel Silberhorn.
I checked the Staubbach and they have availability for 2 nights beginning the 28th of March.
Late March is the end of the ski season and often a school holiday period in parts of Europe. That's probably why you're having trouble finding a room.
. I envisaged beautiful scenic beauty , and lovely walks. Ther Berner Oberland maintains a pretty extensive network of groomed winter walking trails. The snow is usually packed very tightly so that you can walk with regular winter boots (ie, snow shoes not needed). However, if the weather is warm, these start to become slushy and they usually close before the ski pistes.
Depending on the type of accommodations you're looking for, here are a few other choices.....
- http://www.hornerpub.ch/en/ (also owns a Pub across the street)
You could also stay in nearby Stechelberg - http://hotelstechelberg.tcnet.ch/?lang=en
Wengen tends to be a bit more on the "high end of the scale". Lauterbrunnen is the most central location as it's the transportation hub for that area.
Good luck!
