I've decided to tack on five days in Switzerland to another trip in June 2026, and I'm having issues registering on the SBB site. When I click to proceed after providing my info, I keep on getting an error message that says to try again later. This has been happening for consecutive days - is it necessary to register in order to book train travel?
I had similar issues trying to book through the SBB website. In the end what worked for me was booking via trainline.com instead - it gave me the exact same ticket I needed (a Saver Day Pass) but without the weird faff that the SBB website was giving me. I hope that helps! You're certainly not alone in experiencing strange issues trying to book with SBB; it seems to be a fairly common issue on the forum...
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I do have the Trainline app so will definitely use that instead.
I would not recommend using train line.
What are you trying to do on SBB that you need to register for?
I'm only trying to register in order to buy train tickets (presumably it's a bit easier if one has an account). However, I've used Trainline several times before in various countries and never had a problem.
For Switzerland, you want to use SBB, as mentioned above. It has a wealth of info. in addition to train times.

And unless you are buying a saver day pass or super saver ticket, just buy when you are there. Switzerland is not like many countries where you need to purchase tickets months in advance. And there are no seat reservations. So, no need to worry about that.
