Have I covered myself????

I know we are wearing out this topic of travel and Covid…..but I am wanting to be completely prepared…….Carrie has helped me TREMENDOUSLY but I want to broach this with you……I am thinking at this point that when hubby and I fly into Zurich on 9/17/21 we just need our CDC vac card and our passport…..even as we travel through Amsterdam. I was thinking of getting a negative Covid test to have in my pocket in case but have found that are very expensive and not covered by insurance if you tell them you need the test for travel…….I am thinking of getting a cheap CVS self test and have my dr brother monitor it for us…..the certified HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL…..but not sure that would pass the test if needed. Thoughts? We might not even need it…..and am aware to return to the US on 9/30/21 we will need a negative Covis test taken within 3 days of departure from Zurich……our hotel has emailed me places where this can take place for us before we board our plane to come home…….have i missed anything? I have the proper health forms to complete as well before we take this trip……..THANK YOU FRIENDS! It has been so helpful to hear from those of you in Switzerland right now!

Hi Jane! I don't have any of the answers for you, but we're leaving on the 15th and have the same anxieties that we've covered ourselves! I've been logging on everyday to see what little things I need to do to be prepared, I guess it's just part of the adventure! Hope you have a safe trip....John

Same anxieties here- almost a week out- reviewing the checklists today. I have to admit, the adventure seems to be in the prep for travel in the covid era.
safe travels!

Jane, as those cheap CVS self-tests are not the ones approved for travel by the CDC, I would be very cautious about using one even with a doctor monitoring it.

If the Netherlands and Switzerland are not requiring tests to enter, I wouldn’t bother getting one. Of course, check to see if anything has changed before you leave.

I'm hoping all anxieties fade away with the next Swiss covid meeting on Sept. 1.

Hi Jane,
We leave in a week for Switzerland and so recently completed the Swiss Travel Form. Can't remember all the info required; much had to do with Flight information, where we are staying in Switzerland, and Passport number. I honestly can't remember if we had to enter anything about our CDC card. Anyway, upon completion of the form, we received the message that we are clear to enter the country, and we each received our QR code which we must have on hand.
So, no test for us before departure.

wouldn't everyone want to take a test before departure for their own peace of mind? I mean, wouldn't you rather abort the trip before it starts than find that you are sick/contagious/unwell in a foreign country and have to deal with everything that involves - regardless of the receiving country requiring it?

We were thinking along the same lines as Nigel for our upcoming trip to Germany on Friday. We were going to get tested this week for our own peace of mind so we could make adjustments if we needed to cancel the trip if we were asymptomatic positive. However a different decision was made for us last week when SAS cancelled our flight and couldn’t rebook our itinerary and wouldn’t allow us to change it. The refund showed up on our cc today. Oh well, we had figured out when, where and how we’d be tested and will use that information before our next trip.

We also plan to get tested before we leave for our trip on September 17th.. We do have some concerns and are still trying to decide if this is the right time to travel. We are supposed to spend the first half of our trip in Switzerland and then go to Italy for a week. With the rise in COVID cases, I am worried that Italy may reinstate some restrictions. I have also been hearing on the Italy forum of restaurants and museums not accepting the US Vaccination card. Two people said that they were denied access to 3 different restaurants - though they were invited to sit outside. Just wondering if we'll have the amazing trip we are planning. Also, I have heard of two instances of people who have been vaccinated testing positive for COVID before their return flight to US and having to quarantine for 10 days before being allowed to test again. UGGG. So many decisions and such weird times we are living in....
