Has anyone stayed at Hotel Alpina in Murren ?

All of the Murren hotels are still available for our mid September trip.

Based on personal experience, would you suggest Hotel Alpina, Hotel Jungfrau, Hotel Alpenruh, or the Eiger Guesthouse ?

Thanks !!!

I loved Hotel Jungfrau. Get a balcony room (the view will be worth it). I would not go for the half board offer. Breakfast was good, but dinner was less impressive. It is easy access to all of Murren. I would definitely stay there again.

Alpenruh or Alpina are my choices in that order (I've stayed in both). Hotel Jungfrau is way at the top of the village and if you'll have quite an uphill walk from the train station...especially if you'll be dragging luggage and/or making daytrips.

Thank you for the insight !

This is our first time to finally get to this area of Europe, and I am trying to visualize everything !

Hotel Alpina is in a great position. Easy to walk around the village, great cliffside views, close to the train station. We liked it. Good breakfast, too, and they do a decent dinner.

I stayed at Hotel Jungfrau and loved it... the balcony view was incredible! It is uphill which wasn't a concern for me but might be for others. Planning to stay at Eiger Guesthouse next trip-- I ate at the restaurant last time, loved the friendly staff and energetic vibe of the guests, and easy location directly across from train station.

We stayed at the Eiger Guesthouse about 10 years ago. We loved it. It is not on the "cliff" side, but we still had a pretty good view. The breakfast was very good and we ate dinner there most nights as we really enjoyed the restaurant. It's not a luxury hotel, but was nice enough.

The uphill walk to the Hotel Jungfrau was a non issue for me, but the owners will pick you up at the station if you request so there would be no walk at all!

Thank you !

Do you know if you are to get off at Muerren BLM or Muerren LSMS ?

Murren BLM is the train station on one side of the village and Murren LSMS is the gondola station on the other side. Two different stations depending on the route you take to Murren

1) Lauterbrunnen->Grutschalp->Murren BLM
2) Lauterbrunnen->Stechelberg->Gimmelwald->Murren LSMS->onwards to schilthorn

Carla - the fastest and easiest route if are coming into the area via train is route 1 from above post. The funicular station is very close to the Lauterbrunnen train station. For route 2 the first leg is on a bus.

I absolutely cherish every moment I get to spend in Murren. I have stayed at the Alpina, the Jungfrau, and the Bellevue. The Bellevue was my favorite.
I took my husband there for the first time 3 years ago. The plan was to stay in Murren one night, just so he could experience it. We ended up staying 4 nights. We spent the days hiking and relaxing, but we also went to Trummelbach Falls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and to the Junfraujoch one day.
The in-your-face mountain views are some of the best anywhere.
We went back last year for 3 nights. We just never tire of the scenery and its a great place to kick back and slow down.

We are going there for the 4th time this summer. We've stayed in Murren, Wengen and Lauterbrunnen. They are all very different experiences, but all wonderful! The first time we went we stayed for 4 nights, then 5 and 5. This summer we are spending 6 nights in Lauterbrunnen in July. We've always been in June before and I'm hoping the snow will be pretty much gone and all trails open.

Why did you like the Bellevue over Alpina ??

Hi Carla, we stayed at the Hotel Alpenruh for 6 nights in Oct 2017 and for 3 nights in Sep 2016. Great hotel, helpful staff, terrific breakfast. We had a large room with a mountain-view balcony. There is a nice restaurant on site for dinner. The hotel is steps away from the cable car station to Birg and the Schilthorn.

We also stayed at the Hotel Jungfrau in Sep 2010. Also a nice hotel, under new management. Located next to the sports/rec center.

Love Murren! Hope you enjoy your trip!

The Hotel Alpina is a lower star quality as compared to Hotel Alpenruh and Hotel Bellevue. It's still a quality hotel, but the slightly few stars translates to a slightly lower price than the other two. It all depends on how much time you will be sitting in your room. In Murren - you won't be sitting in your room :-) Murren is much too fantastic of a place to spend sitting in your room.

We stayed four nights at the Bellevue. They have a wonderful terrace!

It's hard ! We want a WOW experience, but we will definitely be hiking and biking ALL day !

A balcony with killer views for cribbage and wine at the end of the day would be amazing !

Most of the places there are nice, with slightly different views depending on which of the lanes your hotel is on, we have never been particularly disappointed anywhere. After all the gorgeous mountains are right on the doorstep and the views are incredible from the village.

Alpina rooms have balconies overlooking the valley...actually looking straight down into the valley. They also have cheaper rooms on the other side of the hotel facing away from the valley.

Carla,
We have stayed at Bellevue a couple times. It is a great little hotel with a fun owners/staff. The views from the terrace are absolutely stunning. The dinner menu includes venison and chamois and they are prepared very well.
The last time we were there in 2016 Othmar had a slack line set up about 18 inches off the ground. The owner is very much an outdoors person with a great sense of balance.
Check out the via ferrata if you want a bit of adventure.

Paragliding is also a good time. You can watch them take off while sipping wine on the Bellevue's terrace.
Oh, the Bellevue also has a small laundry facility too.

Carla,

What Jay said about the Bellevue were the reasons we like it so well. Very friendly staff, a fireplace to lounge in front of while journaling, and we enjoyed their restaurant immensely .

We were actually upgraded to a room with a double balcony on the mountain side. It also had a sitting room, which gave some additional relaxing space after our hikes.
Having stayed at least 5 other hotels in Murren, this was the one I would like to return again, since the experience was so special.

Carla - as a fellow Boulderite? I can say that really no place in Colorado can compare. The Lauterbrunnen Valley is my favorite place in the world. The only places that come close are Yosemite and the Brainard Lake recreation area near Nederland reminds me a bit of Switzerland, but really they are both nothing compared to the BO area!
