We will be staying at the Hotel Jagerhof the end of June and looking at the half-pension.. Never have taken advantage of this but wondering what others have experienced.. Thx,Steve
I have not stayed at the Hotel Jagerhof, but every once in a while I will half board at a hotel. My last was in Romania, and it was wonderful although it wasn't a true "half board" as the dinner meal was paid for separately. Many years before, I had a half board booking in Lake Como, and it was a wonderful experience. The food was great, the service was great, and it was in a beautiful setting. But keep in mind that a lot will depend on the food, because you are basically paying for an extra meal.
And of course, while you're not obligated to have your dinner at the hotel, you'll be losing money if you eat elsewhere. So I would take that into consideration as well. You might also look at the cost and see what the difference is between a half pension and just breakfast, which I'm assuming the hotel includes in that, and figure out if it's worth it.
I checked this forum, and there's not a whole lot about the hotel, but there are some reviews on TripAdvisor that you might want to look at. Some mentioned the half board, and the first review I saw was very favorable. Here's a link to it: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188098-d1157859-Reviews-Jaegerhof_Hotel_Apartements-Zermatt_Canton_of_Valais_Swiss_Alps.html
Thx for the reply. They seem to get favorable reviews for their dinner. I guess for $150.00 for 2) isn’t a bad deal for Zermatt…
I agree, that's not a bad price. There's something to be said for sitting down to dinner at your own hotel and seeing other people that stay there, and not having to search for a dinner restaurant each night. I did that when I was staying in Cornwall a couple of years ago. The hotel I stayed at did not have half board, but they did offer meals in a lovely lounge that looked out over the sea, and I ate there every night. It was just so convenient, and the food was very good. I could imbibe a little in some wine without worrying about getting lost on the way back and when I was finished, go up to my room and relax.
There's a lot to be said for comfort and convenience. 😊
