Half fare card / BO pass question

We will be arriving in ZRH the morning of July 2, then heading directly to Wengen for 6 nights/7 days there. We plan to buy the half fare card then the 6 day BO pass for our visit. I went to do so today and it looks like you can only buy the half fare card 2 months in advance? Is this correct? I went to SBB.ch to purchase.

Most Swiss train products can only be bought 60 days in advance. Swiss Travel Pass may be different. I don't know about the Berner Oberland Pass, but if you can buy it now, you do not really need to have the Half Fare Card now to get the discount. Just need to have it when you use the pass.

Oh that’s good to know. Did not realize that. We just need to show that we have the half fare pass when showing our ticket/pass?

Depending on how much you are going to travel in areas outside the BO Pass range, purchasing the Half Fare card offers you no advantage unless you will be doing travel outside the region. The cost of the two combined is the same price. You won't realize savings unless you are going elsewhere. within the country. Based on our travel to the region then off to Zurich for a flight home, our net savings might be CHF30.

The cost of a half fare card is 120 CHF. The difference between the full price vs half fare price for a 6 day BO pass is exactly 120 CHF. So there seems no reason NOT to get it for those travel costs outside of the BO area (even if it’s just to save money from Luzern to ZRH. Or am I missing something?

I would certainly get it. 30.00 can buy you a lunch sometime, and if you decide to travel more at the last minute you can use it!

Yes, that was my point. Look at all travel expense and purchase what is right for you.
