My wife and I plan to purchase the Half Fare Card. Do we each have to have our own separate SBB accounts?

No, you can buy both cards with the same SwissPass account, in a single transaction. That is what I do for my husband’s pass and train tickets. I am better at keeping track of things. ;>)
The confirmation email has both passes attached. I download both on my phone and also forward the email to my husband so he can do the same if he wants. I also print out paper copies. Firm advocate for redundancy here.
