You all helped us so much with deciding to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass. Do you think we should also purchase the half fare card?

It depends. How many days will you be there and which Swiss Travel Pass did you buy? Will the STP cover all of your travel days on boats, buses, and trains? A Half Fare Card might make sense if you have significant fares outside of the days you use the STP.

The Half Fare Card only pays off if you have 240 CHF worth of full fare tickets on top of your free travel days with the STP. Once upon a time, you could buy a Flex STP and then for an extra 60 CHF, you could get Half Fare Card for the days not covered by the Flex STP, but they stopped offering that deal a few years ago.
Generally, just getting a Half Fare Card saves more money than the STP, with the slight inconvenience having to buy a ticket before each journey. So you should get one or the other.
