Limited time in Lucerne, Zurich, & Basel - what to do?

Planning a business trip in late October that will leave me with a little free time...enough to see a few things, but not enough time to go as deep as I would like.

Looking for tips on how to make the most of the following:
-Half day in Lucerne (exploring mid-morning through late afternoon)
-Half day in Zurich (exploring mid-afternoon through the evening)
-Car trip from Zurich to Basel and back (exploring morning/afternoon/evening - with a business lunch near Basel)

I’m not really interested in “night life,” per se. I’m more interested in history, architecture, museums, and natural beauty. If you have any suggestions on how to make the most of each of these abbreviated adventures, I would appreciate any recommendations you might have! Thank you!!

You can ride one of the lake boats on Lake Luzern , or take the rack railway up ( and I really mean UP ) to Pilatus , both beautiful jaunts . Since you mention history , The Wagner Museum , on the lake just south of town in Tribschen , is fascinating . Richard Wagner lived there from 1866 to 1872 , and it was there in 1870 , on Christmas morning , that he awakened his wife with the premiere of his " Siegfried Idyll " .
