Grindlewald early/mid December

Hi everyone,
I have the chance to head to Switzerland in December for a really low fare.
I know the Berner Oberland pretty well, and have stayed in Lauterbrunnen and Gimmelwald.
This trip, I want to hit the Christmas markets, so will probably spend half the week based in Lucerne, but I can't go to Switzerland without going to the BO. I will be arriving just as the lifts are opening up, and am hoping to just bop around to different peaks, take some train rides and poke around.
I know it has a bad reputation on this site for being too touristy, but I was wondering if at this time of year, Grindelwald might not be too bad. I'll be on my own, and would like the ability to walk to dinner, etc... I have no problem hopping on the trains to get up in the mountains if the weather is good.

Thoughts??

Grindelwald is a good choice, you don't have too many day trippers at that time of the year, so you can enjoy the broader selection of shops and restaurants without too many crowds. If you are there after the lifts open for the skiing season, all services will be available. It is a good time to go, better than November or mid April for example.

Do have a look at Wengen, though. It might suit your needs.

Thank you Balso! That was what I was hoping would be the case. But I will check out Wengen too.

I would have no issue at all with being in Grindelwald in December. I think it is a good choice for what you are looking for.
