Yes I did that but we are reading that you need to take a cable car after the train. So I can book the train but then what.

You don’t need an umlaut on your keyboard, you just type Muerren as “ue” = ū

You can book the entire ticket including train/bus/cable cars all on SBB.ch/en or at the ticket machines at the train station in Grindelwald or via a human at the desk (they speak English).

The route to Mürren depends on your specific date because they are replacing one of the cable cars this spring from April 13-July 10, so if it’s between those dates you do a different route. If you put your actual date into SBB it shows you the routes/times & prices for you to buy the full ticket.

There are 2 destinations in Mürren -

“Mürren BLM” is the train station on the north side of the village accessed via cable car from Lauterbrunnen to Grutschalp + train to Mürren

“Mürren Schilthornbahn” is the cable car on the south side of the village accessed via bus from Lauterbrunnen + cable car from Stechelberg

a couple of routes work. Via train towards Interlaken, change at the division point of Zweilütschinen to the train to Lauterbrunnen. Cross the street or use the foot tunnel over to the cable car up to Grütschalp, walk off the cable car and up onto the little train to Mürren BLM and you're there. That is the fastest and takes just over an hour.

or from Lauterbrunnen take the Postbus to the Schilthornbahn cable car to the other end of Mürren.

or up and over the ridge to Wengen, train down to Lauterbrunnen and as above...

In the Berner Oberland you are rarely limited to one route, and working out which you want on a particular day is part of the adventure.

You do not "book a train". You just go to the station in Grindelwald, buy a ticket to "Mürren" and then just go. You get on a train, then another train then either a bus to Stechelberg and the cable car, or the cable car to Grütschalp and then another train...
My suggestion would be to do a round trip: Go up one way, and back the other. Just explain that to the itcket clerk in Grindelwald and they will sell you the right ticket.

In Switzerland public transport is integrated. You do not buy separate tickets for train, bus etc..., you just buy one ticket from your origin to your destination, and it will cover all the services you need to make that trip.

You can buy these tickets at any station, from a manned ticket office if available, otherwise a ticket vending machine. You can also buy them on line or using the App.,

Thanks, WanderWeg and WengenK for all your detailed explanations. I am always learning something new about train travel when I read these posts. Fingers crossed I actually remember most of it when we get there!
