We are visiting Grindelwald in early November for 3 days. I'm seeing now that there will be closures such as the Grindelwald First, Murren, etc. I'd like to get info on what we could do or would it be better to go to another region? We are seeing that Jungfrau region will be open. We love to hike but understand this may not be possible during this season. Any ideas to maximize our time there are appreciated!
Mürren will not be closed, as people live there. But restuarants, hotels, mountain excursions and activities etc. will mostly be closed.
The railway to the Jungfraujoch will be open. And I believe the Schilthorn is also planning to stay open year round, but don't know if they start that already this year.
It is just the upper elevation hiking trails that are inaccessible, for the most part, and the lifts that serve them. From Grindelwald you can still take the Eiger Express to Kleine Scheidegg, if only for the experience and the view.
If you go over to Lauterbrunnen, the walk/light hike between Grütschalp and Mürren is open all seasons but I see the cable way at Grütschalp is closed Oct 27-Nov 7. You can ascend at Mürren and walk both directions (beautiful both ways!) or just hike to Winteregg and back.
At Wengen, there are many paths around the village with great views: the Mönchblick and the Staubachbänklii are easy and lovely. Check with the TI for maps and ideas of more challenging routes.
Also from Lauterbrunnen, take the bus to Stechelberg and walk back through the stunning valley.
