Grindelwald First

Hi All,

Going to be staying in Grindelwald on a Fri-Tuesday at the end of June. Wanting to go up to grindelwald first and do the cliff walk and also the mountain carts. I have read all the reviews about it being long lines etc so was wondering on the below:

Is it better usually (weather dependent) to go on a weekday?
If i get the first gondola up would it be better to do the mountain carts first and then go back up to the cliff walk after?. Do the tickets allow for this?

many thanks!

Weekday vs weekend won’t matter. If it’s nice weather, it’s insane lines. I’ve seen 3-4 hr lines for activities on a weekday. If you’re willing to go up first thing you should be fine, but I’d immediately do paid line activities like the carts, etc and save hanging out for the end. But you’ll have to ride the cable car back up, which can be another line. Really, you just have to prepare yourself for that if you want to do First, Harder Kulm, Jungfraujoch, etc. If you want to stay away from crowds, you have to do things not on the main “lists”

You can at least avoid the ticket lines for the lift itself if you buy your ticket online the previous day. If you follow wanderweg’s advice about doing the mountain cats first (which you should), you will ride the lift to Schreckfeld, get in line for the carts, ride down to Bort, then board uphill lift again to the top for the Cliff Walk. I don’t know if this second uphill ride is covered in a standard return ticket, so you might look into the Adventure Package with one activity (Mountain Cart) included. This allows unlimited rides on the gondola,

Thank you all!

I'm going to purchase the activity package with 1 activity. Then go straight to the carts and then back up to the top. That way we can do the cliff walk and walk to lake without rushing around!

We went to Grindelwald First on a Monday in mid-October.

We had already decided not to do any activities except for the cliff walk as we are allergic to queues.

Good thing too, the queues were absolutely insane. I simply dread to think what they would be like in high season.
