Great news:Swiss Gov to vote on easing of entry requirements for vaccinated third-country nationals

There are a couple of relevant press releases from the Swiss gov. today.

The first details the plan to further facilitate entry into Switzerland from June 28th. The link is here:

Relevant to us as US tourists:

As part of a development of the Schengen acquis, the EU now intends to
repeal the entry restrictions still in force in the Schengen area for
third-country nationals with a vaccination certificate. As a Schengen
associated state, Switzerland has coordinated its travel restrictions
with the EU as far as possible since the start of the pandemic. In
turn, Switzerland plans to ease entry restrictions still in force for
third-country nationals with a vaccination certificate from 28 June
2021. There are currently no travel restrictions between Schengen states. Furthermore, people benefiting from free movement enjoy this right regardless of the state they come from when they enter Switzerland.

The second details the plans for the further easing of restrictions, things like capacity limits and the wearing of masks. The link is here:

All of these proposed measures will be voted on June 23rd. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. 😊

That is promising news, Carrie. The devil is in the details, of course, but we are hopeful for a September trip in Italy and Switzerland. πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

Yeah. They have some world famous outdoor music festivals at Montreux and Verbier that are suppose to start in July, headlined by artists from beyond their borders. The festival organizers on their websites say that they can't sell the tickets until they know if the artists and concertgoers are going to be able to get in and at what capacity. I am off to Northern Italy next month (on a Delta Covid Tested Flight) and just waiting to see if I can cross over to go to Verbier.

I, too, am hoping for September. But I may have to go a couple weeks early. Right now they're still talking that you may have to have been vaccinated less than 6 mos and 11 days. My time would run out on August 20th. Yikes.

Judy, not sure if you saw this, but it sounds like the 6-month time might be increased. Decision to be made on June 23rd.

According to various studies, the duration of protection afforded by
licensed vaccines in Switzerland is most likely more than six months.
Based on the assessment of the Federal Immunization Commission, the
Federal Council will take a decision on the matter on 23 June. The
decision is important for several regulations, in particular for the
COVID certificate.

third-country nationals with a vaccination certificate.

Be interesting to see what their definition of a 'vaccination certificate' is.

A Swiss National told me the 6 month mark would start two weeks after your second shot. So if you got your second shot March 1, the 6 month clock would start March 15. Which gets me in just under the wire. Switzerland is talking about making their residents get boosters at the 6 month mark. But the details should be more clear June 23.
