We are taking the Gotthard Panorama Express in September. is there a "better" side of the train to sit on? How do you know which of the car is the correct side?

An important question is which direction are you traveling? From which station to which station? It looks different north to south than the other way around.

I'd probably start sitting on the right, if I could, although because the train goes around the dogbone curves what is on the right one moment will be on the left the next and so forth. You will have good visibility across the train to the other side, unless the people over there have pulled the sun shade down.
