Golden Pass Panoramic route Montreux to Gruyeres to Murren and Seat Reservations Question

We would like to go from Montreux to Gruyeres and the Broc chocolate factory en route from Montreux to our hotel in Murren on the Golden Pass Panoramic Train on August 13, 2022. We are looking at the schedule below on the MOB website.

Montreux to Gruyere’s 10:50-11:57 Golden Pass
Gruyere to Zweisimmen 15:56-17:57 Golden Pass (OR the 13:57-15:57)
Zweisimmen to Lauterbrunnen 18:02-19:55 Regular Train

We were wondering is this is too much to try and do in one day? Would stopping in Gruyeres detract from the Golden Pass Panoramic Train experience? Should we allow 4 or 6 hours to see the cheese and chocolate factories? Another option would be to go to the Saturday morning market in Vevey and take the afternoon Golden Pass Panoramic Train Montreux to Zweisimmen.

There is also a 8:50 Golden Pass train and a 9:50 Belle Epoque so we could leave earlier if needed. However, we would prefer to leave later in the morning if possible as we are only staying one night in Montreux and have a nice hotel with a view. We are arriving from Paris the day before and plan on seeing Chateau de Chillon before checking into our hotel.

A few other questions: How do you reserve a seat on VIP Golden Pass Panoramic car, if I already have Swiss Pass? How far in advance can you reserve seats? Is there another website besides MOB which would be better to make seat reservations?

Thank you so much for any input!

There’s an MOB office in the Montreux train station.
I took the Golden Pass from Montreux to Gstaad and overnighted. I didn’t want to rush through the spectacular scenery. Next morning onward to Lucerne again on the Golden Pass till Interlaken (I think). Got a 1st class ticket and seat reservation as I’d heard that the seats were a lot more comfortable.
Only you knows if the schedule is too tight for your needs. For me it would detract from my reason to be there. To relaxingly enjoy the scenery.

If you want to go to Gruyères, you need to leave the Golden Pass panoramic Train at Montbovon and take a regional train there and back to re-join a different Golden Pass train. I would not take the time for that, personally.

To make reservations on the MOB website, you choose the train you want and hit “buy a ticket”. The next screen will confirm the date and route (if you want to go to Gruyères, it will show you going only to Montbovon where you change to the other train). Hit “Next” and the next screen will ask for the names of the travelers, birthdate, and “Reduction”. that is where you put in “Reservation Only” if you are using a pass. Ignore the yellow warning tht you need a “valid ticket”, because you have a pass. Just hit “Next” again and proceed with the purchase of the reservation.
