Going from Paris to Switzerland in May

Do we need a car? Would like to see Lucerne and scenery (mountains) We have 5 days in Switzerland and are flying out of Zurich. Any suggestions?

Switzerland is the one place you can get along just fine without wheels. Train system is excellent. The train will take you right to Zurich airport and places in the mountains where they don't allow any cars. Think about what you want to see and go to www.sbb.ch to see schedules and if some sort of pass will be beneficial.

While there are certainly other great mountains you could visit, you could stick around Lucerne for 3 nights and then do one night in Zurich and see the city before flying out (the train station is a 15 minute ride from the airport, easy access). In Lucerne you can go up Mount Rigi and/or Mount Pilatus, take a boat ride around the lake and so on. And as Sam said, all possible without a car.
